Methylated Spirit Fixing Transfers – Application

With a sharp knife score round the desired design, lift the tissue with the point of a knife and peel away from the backing paper.  Lay the transfer down where required and wet with a mixture of 3 parts methylated spirit and 1 part water (if using large transfers wet the model surface with the mixture first).  Carefully adjust the position – if necessary press down firmly with the fingers or a damp cloth.  Ensure that the transfer tissue does not dry out completely by occasionally dampening the tissue. 

After 15 minutes soak the tissue thoroughly with water and peel off when soft.  Leave for a few hours to harden and wash off surplus gum with water.  A protective varnish may be applied if desired.  This will particularly help to prevent the tarnishing of ‘gold’ insignia.
